FAQ

How is Evan's method different from other practitioners?

Evan’s Method addresses the 5 most common and chronic conditions of weight gain, digestive issues, fatigue, depression, and hormone imbalances that are typically misunderstood or misdiagnosed by conventional practitioners who attempt to cover up the symptoms and not get to the root cause.

Evan’s method is a lab-based natural health protocol that tests and identifies the presence and quantitative evidence of dysfunction of the various systems in the body. The lab tests are used to determine the required natural support needed to rebalance your body back to its normal state.

Is Evan an MD?

Evan is not a medical doctor; he does not service medical emergencies, diagnose, treat or issue protocols for any specific diseases. If you have a medical emergency, you must contact your primary care physician or dial 911.

Evan supports chemical and physical stress imbalances, with the goal of promoting wellness.

Working with Evan does NOT create a “doctor-patient relationship” and he does not “treat” or “diagnose”. Evan is not a licensed nutritionist. Evan is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition® and a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

Can my spouse, partner, and/or children all work with Evan?

Yes! Evan works with women who wish to become pregnant, children of all ages, and adults. Evan works with couples all the time. In fact, it's much better this way because when the family improves their lifestyle, diet, and other measures together, the results happen faster and the end result is more sustainable. Many couples like to speak with Evan during the same time block, that is just fine, and you will each be charged for a consult.

How long does it take to get results?

Results vary by person. Some people feel dramatic improvement within the first month, others may take a bit longer. Our standard programs are for approximately 6 months. Remember, your body didn’t fail overnight. Years of stress and illness take their toll and it takes a proper amount of time to restore. On average it takes one month of repair for each year you’ve suffered from a specific problem.

Consultation Process

How do the free consultations work?

The free 15-minute call is with Evan.

No health advice is given during the introductory call. Evan listens to your health symptoms and concerns, asks several qualifying questions, and discusses our clinic process with you.

Once you move into your first client call (i.e. New Client Consultation) with Evan, he will recommend specific functional laboratory tests based on your symptoms and goals (he may recommend these during the free call). Those tests are sent to your door which are completed and sent back to the lab using prepaid envelopes.

Evan will schedule a follow-up consultation with you 3-6 weeks after the New Client Consultation to discuss the results and create a customized functional medicine program for you. This can include diet, lifestyle, supplements, herbs, and any other necessary tool to help you get better. He may also review test results and create a protocol during the New Client Consultation if you have done the tests beforehand.

We look forward to helping you get to the root cause! Click here make your online appointment.

Communication Outside of Scheduled Consults

Practitioners will not respond to client messages sent to their personal email addresses or cell phone.

Many people now use email as a primary way to communicate with others. We appreciate that email can be a great way to ask a quick question or clarify something from your last visit or share with us how you are doing. However, we have found through experience that email is often not the best way to deal with more treatment-oriented questions or concerns such as those involving your medical issues, symptoms, and any complex requests regarding your protocol.

When sending an email related to your protocol or symptoms, please be guided by the following:

  • Our practitioners will only entertain yes or no questions. For anything more complex than that, please schedule an appointment so your practitioner will have time set aside to directly hear and address your concerns. If there is no time available on the calendar for a troubleshooting consult, please email the office so we can try to find a time to squeeze you in. A 1-10 minute or 11-15 minute follow-up consultation will usually do for troubleshooting consultations.

  • Any requests to change your protocol after an appointment will require a troubleshooting consultation to properly discuss. We highly recommend utilizing the appointment time to ask any questions, bring up any concerns, or make any requests you may have regarding your protocol and/or test results.

  • Our practitioners are not medical doctors, for any medical emergencies please call 911. If you are in need of refills on prescription medication, please see the original prescribing physician.

  • By booking an appointment, we trust that clients are aware of our time-block rates (i.e. consultation fees will be billed based on the time used, not the time booked). We understand that you may want your appointment to only run as long as you booked it for (i.e. 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minutes) and our practitioners will certainly try to do so but please also understand that, depending on the nature of the questions and concerns, it may not all be properly addressed if we are strictly keeping it at the time booked.

Does Evan do any in-person consultations?

Lab Tests and Supplements

What types of lab tests are required?

Depending on the type of test, the samples required are saliva, urine, stool and blood. All tests are completed by the client through easy test kits that are self-administered in the comfort of your own home. Blood tests may be run as needed from your local lab. You can check out some of the commonly recommended and ordered tests here.

What laboratories does Evan use and why?

Evan has learned that the accuracy of your lab findings and the quality of the professionals performing the lab tests is the key to you uncovering what’s going on. Quality is not equal across all lab companies. Many times we see “normal” test results from regular lab companies and our lab tests find many “functional” problems. The lab companies used by Evan have the highest testing standards and the most consistent lab results year after year. These are not replacements for regular medical tests, these tests are only used to detect “functional” issues rather than medical problems and aren’t meant to diagnose or recommend protocols for diseases. We are attempting to detect problems with the functioning of organ systems prior to the onset of a disease.

Can I purchase my supplements other than from Evan?

Evan carries his own line of professional-grade supplements which have been formulated to achieve the best results in the right specified dosages. These supplements are also stored in an air-conditioned environment and come directly from the manufacturer.

If you want to do your own research on different supplements, you can do so but please do so with caution. We do supply you with other professional-grade brands if they carry something we do not. If you purchase supplements from consumer-grade companies, please research carefully - not all ingredients are equal. There are many quality control issues regarding supplements from Amazon and other consumer-grade sites and not all brands sell directly on those sites.

Can I order my own test kits through the laboratories or can my regular doctor order the lab tests for me?

Our authorized laboratories are only able to sell test kits to practitioners. Evan uses specific lab tests from small lab companies that exclusively offer functional medicine tests. Larger national labs and local hospital-based labs are not helpful for these types of highly specialized tests.

There may be extra shipping charges for your test kits if you are outside of the USA.

If the recommended labs are sourced outside our clinic a lab read and admin fees totaling $199 per test will be charged to review it/them.

(NOTE: The lab read fee and consultation fee are not the same)

How long does it take to get the lab results?

The results of your lab test(s) will be sent to Evan 2 to 4 weeks after mailing your specimens to the lab. After evaluation, you can schedule a follow-up appointment to review your results with Evan and he will recommend a wellness protocol. If you haven’t had a New Client Consultation, please book that one first - our practitioners can still review your results during that appointment.

Do I have to take all the recommended tests at once?

The number of labs recommended will depend on your individual situation including the number of issues you struggle with and the length of time you have been experiencing them, but the range is 1-4 lab tests.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please notify our office a minimum of 48 hours before your scheduled time or you may be charged for that appointment. Evan has clients waiting a month to be seen, and a missed appointment takes time away from someone else.

Free Introductory Consultations may be charged $50 if the cancellation policy is not followed.

New Client Consultations may be charged in full if the cancellation policy is not followed.

Follow-up Consultations may be charged for the time that was booked (i.e. 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minutes) if the cancellation policy is not followed.

What are late fees?

If you need to adjust your invoice, don’t worry you will not be charged any late fees as long as you let us know you need to make adjustments in the first 2 business days of receiving it. If you need to delay any of the products or labs (not including consults) we can break them up into separate invoices that can be paid at a later date of your choosing. Labs and supplements will ship once they have been paid.

We always waive late fees as a one-time courtesy for new clients. When you read the invoice cover letter that goes out with every emailed invoice, the late fee policy is very transparent. The late fees start 5 business days after the consult and do not apply if you reach out back to the office in the first 5 business days to make any adjustments. If you have reached out to the office within 5 business days and received a late fee, just email us and we can waive it for you.

The policy is here for a few reasons.

1. To make sure we collect payment in a timely manner. In a physical setting, the payment would take place immediately after the consult.

2. To ensure the timing and sequencing of care in regards to labs, supplements and follow-up consult rescheduling. Also, many clients have information about their invoice top of mind right after their consult, the longer clients wait to pay, the greater chance they forget why they are being prescribed certain supplements or lab tests in their protocol. This then requires the need to schedule additional follow-up consults so the client can be refreshed on the rationale of their protocol.

3. To prevent staff time from being spent rescheduling, answering questions, and accommodating clients who have delayed payment.

Since we added this policy it solves the issues above.

Why was I automatically charged for the consultation fee and/or why was my invoice for the test and supplements canceled?

If we do not hear back from a client after 15 days of the appointment, we will automatically charge you for the consultation fee, if applicable, and remove/cancel the invoice for the supplements and/or tests.

Does he offer any discount if more than one family member signs up to become a client?

For a family member of existing clients, the initial consultation can be discounted. Please contact the office for more details. We can offer joint consultations to cover both people where we do 1.5-2 hours back to back

(NOTE: Consultation fees will always be per client regardless of joint consultations).

How much do the lab tests cost?

Depending on the lab test, the cost is $300-1199 per lab kit (including combo tests/panels) and you can always start a program just by ordering a single test. Evan will recommend between 1-4 labs during the new client consultation depending on the client’s health issues and goals. All clients programs can be customized so all obstacles to starting care can be reduced.

The price of the lab tests do not include the consultation fee.

Does my new client consultation fee include follow-ups, supplements, or lab tests?

The new client consultation is an assessment of your health and recommendations on what tests are required to understand the state of your body systems. The new client consultation fee does not include any follow-ups, test kits, or supplements. It does include extensive wellness resources including videos, books, and handouts accessible in the members’ area and via email.

What is the average cost of the first appointment including my consultation and labs?

It depends on how many test kits are recommended (typically 1-4) but we always recommend that if there are any budgetary concerns, clients start with their first test.

Does Evan take insurance?

We do not bill insurance companies; it is up to each individual to determine whether their insurance plan provides reimbursement for health consultations, supplements and, lab tests. Our practitioners are not medical doctors - we do not have any NPI numbers or any codes to provide. The best we can provide is an itemized invoice with an address and tax ID number. We can provide this upon request.

What type of payments do you accept?

All payments must be made in U.S. dollars.

Methods of payment are Visa, MasterCard, HSA, Flex-savings, Discover or debit card, Digital Checks/eChecks, Venmo, and PayPal.

  • Card payments are subject to a 3% convenience fee.

  • Any fees PayPal deducts from the payment will be shouldered by the client. You can email our office for more information.

How much do the wellness programs cost after lab work?

Depending on the protocol created by Evan, supplements will range between $50 to $400 per month and depends how healthy or sick you are at starting the program.  All programs can be customized to the clients needs at the new client consult and follow up consult.

Why was I charged a lab read fee?

If any labs are ordered outside of our office based on any of our practitioners’ recommendations and are brought back for them to review, a $199 lab read fee may be charged. (NOTE: The lab read fee and consultation fee are not the same)

Others

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine, rather than targeting individual symptoms, is a health coaching category that focuses on the optimal functioning of the entire body and its organs. It addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach in partnership with understanding the conditions and history in which the disease manifested. Genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors all have a direct influence of long-term health and chronic health issues.

How often should I retest?

While retesting isn’t required, it is recommended that a client retest at the 6-12 month mark to measure improvement and adjust protocols if needed. Once a client has achieved their desired health results, we recommend annual testing to ensure your body systems continue functioning at their best.

How long are the wellness programs?

Initial programs range anywhere from 3-6 months depending on the degree of your health condition. Many clients enjoy working with us for years as they continue to see improvements that justify continuing care. We love you too.
