Insanity can happen on a global scale and often happens more as a collective group as opposed to on an individual level. Insanity is a word that can present both negative and positive connotations.

Today, we are discussing the form of insanity caused by a combination of symptoms many clients have described.

  • Sleep Disfunction
  • Brain Fog
  • Fatigue
  • Racing Thoughts

Identify Your Feelings

If we constantly repress emotions, they may come back worse than before.

We live in a society where "putting things off" for later is socially acceptable and normal. Credit cards being the best example.

Keeping economics out of a health article, let's talk about how we can face our emotions without becoming paralyzed.

Being honest with your downfalls is a priceless and important trait to possess. Figuratively or literally looking yourself in the mirror and saying "You know what, I am crazy. Let's figure this thing out." may be the most effective tactic.

Define the roadblocks

Are you suffering from physical pain? Are you in a job that is making your waking life miserable?

Defining the roadblocks to your natural positive mental state may be very uncomfortable. The thought of your roadblocks alone may depress you.

Remember the concept of our putting things off? Apply this concept to the 1 in 10 depressed individuals in the United States.

Are we covering up depression caused by events and factors in life that are malleable and can be changed?

Simple changes that make drastic results

  • Start a walking routine
  • Develop an interest in drawing, reading, gardening, drumming, guitar, music therapy, painting, nature adventures, hiking, biking, photography
  • Go to sleep by 10pm
  • Reduce blue light at night
  • Supplement your greens consumption + probiotics
  • Take epsom salt baths in warm water with essential oils
  • Immerse yourself in silence
  • Increase time spent in the woods
  • Remove all distractions and electronics and converse face to face with loved ones
  • Verbally speak instead of typing, texting and chatting

Taking a look at this list, the majority are actions that would have happened naturally in our ancestors lives.

Without effort, we naturally regulated our moods and neurotransmitters. This was a time long before we knew that neurotransmitters even existed, yet we were much happier and healthier.

Reduce stressful inputs

No one forces you to turn the TV/radio/news on in the morning.

Without owning a TV for the last 4 years, life has become a much calmer and more relaxed journey. Anyone can try this experiment for themselves.

We have to ask ourselves how much technology is really necessary, especially first thing in the morning.

Other stressful inputs include:

  • Negative people
  • Loud music
  • Alarm clocks - Your alternative is here
  • Excess caffeine
  • Excess chocolate
  • Excess alcohol
  • Energy drinks
  • Sugar or refined carbohydrates

Notice the food items on this list.

Refined carbohydrates cause the famous "flight-or-fight" system to engage to safely and promptly disperse and store the excess sugar into our fat cells.

Long-term consumption of breads, bagels, pastas and other dense sources of refined carbohydrates can indirectly lead to anxiety, irritability and mood instability.

Understanding the glycemic index may help if you want to dig further into this point.

Accomplish less

In arguably the greatest time of competitiveness and dog-eat-dog behavior that has surfaced in modern times, we can't seem to relax.

Entrepreneurs and corporations alike, constantly seeking a higher goal, never settling for the present success.

Is participating in the rat race worth the effort?

Our ancestors would have done quite the opposite.

Data suggests our work day (evolutionarily) would have lasted about 2-3 hours, with the remainder of our time spent cuddling, playing, teaching, learning, having sex and sleeping.

The art of owning and doing less is actually quite empowering.

My e-friends over at the Minimalists have developed quite the fancy for helping those become happy with less.

Could it be that we are not exhausted because we are weak-minded, out-of-shape and broken, but that we are going against our genetic code and human history?

By scheduling yourself less, learning to say no and standing up for your rest and recover time, you will find that your energy and motivation may be restored.

Note: More complex issues involving your adrenal glands, thyroid and digestive system may contribute to your poor feelings as well.

However, many of our adrenal problems and low thyroid problems are simply a natural reaction to over-stress. Our body naturally slows down the thyroid gland in an effort to reduce our "engine idle speed" so we don't "blow our engine"

Less is more

Learn to be happy with the essentials.

Reduce your exposure to advertisements. These will not promote any of the quality food and nutrients your body requires for maintaing physical and mental health.

When I help clients that are struggling with some of the concepts of removing sugar and things like "vitamin water" from their diet, learning their TV watching history is a large clue.

Be your own hero.

Be the idol of your own movie.

Imagine that every action, experience and possibility you can achieve and visualize the large audience in the crowd watching.

Allow yourself to emerge from the depths of negative thoughts and a pessimistic attitude.

Understand that worrying about things beyond the scope of your control may lead to failure and frustration.

Having hope can be more powerful than you think.
